WheelView Installation

Installation:

Installation Types:

WheelView is designed to measure wheel profiles at normal track speeds. Since the system is based on three-dimensional reconstruction of the wheel profile, rail deflections and track deviations will not affect the system performance.

The deflections and deviations must not exceed system limits that may cause wheels to fall outside the viewing range of sensors. These limits are typically large enough that normal track deviations will not affect the system performance.

Typical rail deflections of up to 3 inches and track deviations of up to 2 inches are tolerated in normal system configurations.

A major advantage of the WheelView® system is its flexible installation types. These installations types are designed to accommodate railroad requirements for track structure. In each installation type, system equipment are housed in

1.      The system enclosures located between two ties over a concrete foundation. (Form A)

2.      The system enclosures that are positioned between two ties and are clamped onto the rails. (Form C)

3.      One or two 10"x10" steel ties that replace existing ties. This creates an installation without any apparent change in the track structure. (Form B)

Installation Requirements:

  1. System is usually installed in a relatively stable track position. System has a relatively high tolerance for the vertical displacement of the wheel at the measurement point.
  2. System needs a relatively tangent segment of the rail for installation. If the system must be installed on a non-tangent section of the track, an angle of attack measurement unit will be added to the system requirements.
  3. For long-term installations, a small bungalow near the track with temperature control is necessary.
  4. Some type of communication /networking/LAN/WAN line is required. This line is used for remote system monitoring/maintenance and also to transmit measured wheel data to the central computer and database. The measured data will be transferred into local and/or remote databases as soon as data processing is completed. Remote databases can be installed at customer´s desired locations. From there, data can be transferred into Railroad´s data collection center. WheelView is also equipped with a messaging system that can report condemnable wheels to local or remote sites, as soon as it is detected. The message can be either in the form of a FTP or an email sent to Railroad´s desired location or a local alarm may also be activated if desired
  5. An AEI system interface is integrated into the system.
  6. Beena Vision Systems, Inc. will provide a detailed document for site preparation for each specific installation location.
  7. The system is calibrated after the installation is completed. A yearly calibration of the system is recommended. In case the system has received an extreme shock with physical damage to the system, a recalibration is recommended. System has a built-in capability to automatically detect its out-of-calibration status. An alarm report is usually issued in this case.
